7th Grade Poets Dazzle in Ms. Tolonen's Moody Cafe

Students sit at tables laden with food in a classroom decorated with lights and posters, while two students stand at the front presenting to the class.

The classroom was dimly lit, light refreshments were served, and staff were invited to join the audience for Ms. Tolonen's Poetry Cafe the first week of June. Some students read the poetry of others, a few read their own creations, but all put in great efforts to share what inspires them.

A few Maywood teachers joined in, with Ms. Gleisberg sharing one of her own poems. "The set up was cozy, organized, and so memorable for kids," said Ms. Gleisberg. There were some powerful moments that caused some watery eyes, and light moments in "open mic" moments. It was a great way to wrap up the school year and for students to share what they've learned with their peers and staff.
