Charger Alum Shares a Positive Message with 8th Graders

Presenter with students behind a table with a tablecloth that reads "Beyond Disabilites"

Maywood and Liberty alumnus Steve Ferreira spoke to Maywood's 8th grade students on Friday, December 1st about living with a disability. Steve was born with cerebral palsy and navigates the world in a wheelchair, but he has not let that define him. He is a gold medal winning para-athlete.

He's also working with UC Santa Barbara to create adaptive workout equipment for people with disabilities. "I hope Steve's message of perseverance and anti-bullying made a positive, powerful impact on Maywood's students," says teacher Dawn Richardson. Ms. Richardson stays in regular contact with Steve, whom she's invited back to Maywood several times over the years to share his experience with our students.
