Maywood Hosts Its First Multicultural Night
On May 14, Maywood hosted our first Multicultural Night! We had many students and families create displays to share about their personal connections with other countries/regions (including China, Canada, Scotland, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Philippines, India, and Latvia). There were many delicious foods to sample and activities to explore, including origami and henna tattoos. There were also booths from the Liberty HS Black Student Union, The Circle, VOICE Mentors, and Cultural Bridges.
We enjoyed performances by the Maywood Orchestra, Maywood Chorale, Seattle Tai Chi, and Pacific Ballroom Dance, as well as students sharing their talents with music composition and kendo. Our PTSA hosted our Scholastic Book Fair and set up a quiet space for students to have available.
Principal Erin Armstrong shared, "Thank you to our Culture Committee students and staff advisor, Leah Ball, for helping us to make this happen! We were fortunate to have our PTSA provide support in many areas, from putting up decorations and coordinating food trucks to encouraging community participation and providing volunteers – thank you to our PTSA President, Kristi Hammond, and PTSA Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Representative, Nancy Benter! A big thank you to Cultural Bridges for helping to sponsor this event!"
