Maywood Says Goodbye for Now with Assembly

Students smile together, one covered in silly string

Tuesday morning the day finally came to say goodbye to our students. Our ASB leaders organized an assembly to end the 2024-25 school year on a high note. Chargers had the opportunity to recognize our Charger Award winners, our newly elected 2025-26 student leadership team, play some games, and say goodbye to staff who are departing. One highlight was the Charger Award winners getting the opportunity to silly string outgoing ASB President Ishaan.

Particularly emotional was saying goodbye to John Gillingham, who is retiring after teaching for 27 years at Maywood, including teaching some of the parents of current students. Mr. Gillingham shared, "Thank you for making teaching so much fun. You kept me on my toes, kept me laughing, and gave me more stories than I could ever tell – 176 and counting.  I’ve especially loved the joking and shenanigans, and the moments of shared laughter that brightened every day. Watching you grow, struggle, learn, and have those “Aha” moments has been the greatest reward of my career."
