PTSA Honors Jill Meitzel and Bree Chang with Prestigious Awards

Staff members stand with awards

Maywood PTSA President Kristi Hammond came to our final staff meeting to recognize two members of our staff for their service. The Outstanding Advocate Award recognizes staff for their advocacy to help create strong policies relating to the health, welfare, safety and education of children. This year the PTSA chose Jill Meitzel, Kitchen Manager, to receive this honor. Jill was a member of both our Bell Schedule and Bond Committees this year, advocated for bringing the District's breakfast program to Maywood, has mentored a Gibson Ek student this school year, and is an active leader as part of her union. She also attended Maywood, as did all of her children. "Jill is continuously advocating for her co-workers, all Maywood students, and District families," said Hammond.

The Outstanding Educator Award honors a staff member who has made significant contributions in their community to enhance the educational outcomes of students. This year Bree Chang was honored. Bree "sets high expectations for her students, and it pays off in so many ways," said Hammond. Bree is our Science team lead, has partnered with Liberty High students to offer Science Lab to students, is one of our WEB advisors, and has acted as our building's Testing Coordinator for several years. A current student commented, "There is no one I'd rather have learned Biology from."
