Spanish Class Celebrates Winter Holidays

In the days leading up to winter break, Maria Rojas Solano's Spanish classes spent time learning about different winter holidays around the world. Their studies culminated in a class celebration featuring food and decorations they might find at a Hispanic holiday party.

They made Papel picado (a traditional Mexican decorative craft made by cutting elaborate designs into sheets of tissue paper), posters depicting holidays, and brought homemade sweet tamales and Mexican hot chocolate. After their treats, Ms. Rojas Solano taught them how to make luminaria. Ms. Ludka's first period MLL class was invited to join in as well. "The classes all just had a lot of fun together," shared Solano.
