6th Grade Core Course Options
Our school offers the opportunity for students to self-select core courses in English Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science for 6th grade. Students should choose the courses that best align to their interests and future aspirations. Some courses offer more challenging coursework, which requires personal motivation and strong work habits. For some courses, ISD offers recommended levels of performance on the SBA or i-Ready assessments to ensure students have the academic knowledge and skills to be set up for success.
For ELA, students choose either English Language Arts 6 or Advanced Language Arts 6. Advanced English Language Arts is a program for students which provides additional challenge and rigor in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening and language. Visit our Advanced ELA 6 website to see if this course is the best fit for you.
For Math, students choose one of 3 math pathways. Visit our middle school mathematics webpage to learn more about the math course offerings.
For Science, students choose from the 6th grade Science Pathway I, which starts with Life Science, or Science Pathway II, which skips Life Science and begins with students taking the 7th grade science course, Earth and Space Science. Visit our middle school science webpage to learn more about these options and see which is the best fit for you.

Liberty High School (LHS) Course Request Information and Timeline
As we do each spring, we will be running our Course Request Process (or CRP) beginning Wednesday, March 5th through Monday, March 17th. During this window, students will be able to request the courses they would like to take for the coming school year. After that window is closed, our Counseling team will review the schedules to make sure students have everything they need in order to be on track to graduate. Once that has taken place, we will begin the task of putting together our “Anchor” Schedule which will be the framework for next school year.
Incoming 9th graders (current 8th graders), will be going through this same process at their respective middle schools. Tuesday, March 4th students will watch a Liberty Course Request Process video during Charger Time. Tuesday, March 11th, LHS counselors will be visiting Maywood during lunches to meet with students and help to answer any questions they might have.
For the parents of incoming 9th graders, we will be having our Incoming Freshmen Night at Liberty High School Tuesday, February 25th from 5:30-7:55pm. This will be an opportunity for families to meet with counselors, ask questions, and learn more about the different programs we offer here at Liberty. Click here to access the informational flyer.
As we get closer to March, we will share out more information and resources. Please be on the lookout for those updates in the weeks ahead. Please go to the Liberty High School Announcement page for more info: https://liberty.isd411.org/our-school/announcements
